 Capacity Development in Higher Education in Nigeria: Implication for Mathematics Educators

Abstract: Capacity development of her citizenry by any nation all over the world is considered crucial. This more often than not is appropriately obtained and done in such a nation’s institutions of higher learning which include universities, polytechnics, colleges of educations and monotechnics. This paper considered capacity development in Nigeria higher education with its implication for mathematics educators. It took a cursory look at the paper by considering it under the following major sub-heads: Higher education in Nigeria, capacity development in higher education in Nigeria as well as the role of mathematics education in capacity development in higher education in Nigeria. Furthermore, challenges and implications for mathematics educators in capacity development in higher education among which include: Being abreast with current knowledge in the application of mathematics to the national economy and the encouragement of inter-institutional cooperation among mathematics educators were suggested.
