Abstract: During typical education and distance learning in the school year 2020–2021, students of the two last grades of the elementary school, inspired by Mikis Theodorakis’ compose “The Kites”, used the STEAM method and unfolded their imagination to realize a series of activities. The educational methods of constructivism, interdisciplinary, discovery and cooperative learning were utilized. The students participated actively in the kite's journey, activating cognitive, emotional and psychomotor skills and competences, using ICT digital tools such as Scratch, Microsoft Sway, Padlet, Wordwall etc. They also played music with their bodies and made kites of clay and cardboard. In the framework of science, they performed experiments to perceive why an object flies on the air. They used simple and cheap materials in order the experiments to be easily repeatable at home. In Maths, they studied the properties of the normal hexagon which is the favorite shape of the Greek kite. In Engineering, they constructed their own kite and flew it.

Through the above-mentioned activities, the students implemented the acquired knowledge in real life situations and problems. Hence, as they were asked to think, collaborate, play, create and self-assess, their metacognitive skills were cultivated.

Key words: Kite, STEAM, constructivism, discovery learning
