 The Integral ASIE Instructional Design Model: An Innovative Tool in Designing Instruction for Teachers in the 21st Century Learning

Abstract: The 21st century learning needs learners to acquire knowledge and skills, not just for their certification purposes, but solutions to the employability issues. They need to establish themselves as a “globally competitive learner” following the 4Cs requirement (critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity) suggested by the 21st century learning framework (Partnership for 21st Century Skills, 2008). Thus, teachers need to design their instruction in an innovative way based upon “learner-centered approach” that will be able to develop the new generation creating a much better learning experience, skills, and knowledge both in the classroom and online (Oblinger D. G. & Oblinger J. L., 2005). The Integral ASIE Instructional Design Model (Ismail Md Zain, Balakrishnan M., 2014, 2016) is an innovative online ID Model serves as a tool in instructional planning for teachers at macro and micro levels in the 21st century learning environment. ASIE refers to Analyze, Strategize, Implement and Evaluate. It is accessible at www.asiemodel.net. It is interactive to the user, integrative in planning the content, prescriptive in the planning procedures and constructive in the organization of the components. It has a planning mechanism known as Multiple Integration Worksheet (MIW) which guides teachers in the course of formulating & integrating the best possible practices in the instructional planning strategies. Results show that teachers have positive views on the model in the workshop conducted.
