Social Innovation and Knowledge Resource: A Conceptual Understanding

Abstract: This paper conceptually explores social innovation as a new innovation outcome strategy and its association with knowledge resource. This paper found that social innovation is an outstanding solution in addressing social, economic and technological issues for example poor social health, poor living conditions, poor education systems, public income inequality, massive unemployment and poor economic growth. Furthermore, this paper highlights the processes of knowledge creation, knowledge transfer and knowledge application creates superior knowledge resource that is regarded as a new and novel solution that can be embedded into products, processes and services which in turn leads to the outcome of improving the quality and quantity of people’s life, stimulate economic growth and enhancing technological advances. The finding of this paper also established that old paradigm of innovation, i.e., technological innovation, is seen inadequate and obsolete in dealing with aforesaid social, economic and technological issues because it is very much focused and centered in fulfilling private needs. Finally, this paper concludes that an extensive understanding on the insight of how social innovation and knowledge resource is linked and connected must be seriously engaged considering the massive contribution that it might afford towards many nations’ core aspirations.
